The Location

The Lamb Inn is located in beautiful English countryside in the little hamlet of Wartling.

Sat in the countryside between Bexhill and Eastbourne the 500 year old inn has seen a lot of history and the land around it has seen even more; back as far as 1066, the trail taken by William’s army to face Harold at the battle of Hastings is just a short walk away!

The area is known as the Pevensey levels, a wide open wetlands habitat dotted with small settlements but dominated by nature and rich farmlands; not so far in the past much of it was underwater making it a great landing point both for conquering armies and smugglers throughout history.

It’s a strikingly beautiful area rich in wildlife like wading birds and many of our visitors are ramblers and bird watchers who have come to take it all in; even well behaved dogs are very welcome to join their owners in the bar!

Another striking local site is the beautiful Herstmonceux Castle, set in stunning gardens and a magnificent mote various guided tours and open days are held throughout the year.

And once you've exhausted yourself looking at all that, what better than to take a seat by the fire, sample some of the fine real ales and maybe some of our wonderful home cooking as well; we look forward to seeing you!
